The authors argue that the EU has chosen to place political integration before market liberalisation and has followed policies of protection not merely in agriculture, but also in manufacturing trade, while leaving continental countries' restrictions on trade in services largely intact. The UK, meanwhile, has developed into a services-based and relatively deregulated economy, and a net importer not merely of food but also of manufactured goods. As such, the book finds that the UK is damaged by the EU's current policies, as indeed is the general mass of the people within the rest of the EU.

Mises dobře věděl, že samotná byrokratizace s sebou nese jisté problémy (a přesto byrokratickou správu jistých oblastí – např. policie – považoval za nutnou). Uvědomoval si však také, že jakmile se byrokratizace dále rozšiřuje, stává se sama zdrojem své další expanze. Byrokrat totiž nemá nástroj,který by mu umožnil poznat, zda svou aktivitou bohatství tvoří, nebo jím plýtvá. Argument o nemožnosti racionální ekonomické kalkulace za socialismu zde ukazuje svou platnost v oblasti analýzy byrokracie.“

Abstrakt/Abstract: Knihu otevírá věta: "Už dva tisíce let jsou Židé pronásledováni a nikdo, dokonce ani jejich pronásledovatelé, neví proč." Tato patologická nevraživost autora udivuje svou nadčasovostí, rozsahem a nevykořenitelností. Zvlášť po holocaustu se vztah k Židům a k antisemitismu stává jednou z ústředních civilizačních otázek. Každý by měl sám v sobě zapátrat, zda nenápadný virus této choroby nedřímá i někde v hloubi jeho cítění. Zločiny ruských nebo kambodžských komunistů měly rovněž obludný rozměr, ale dnes se už prý rozplývají v čase jako hrůzy všemožných jiných genocid, jichž se lidstvo dopustilo. Antisemitismus přetrvává. Jeho nejpodivnějším příznakem je absurdita, neboť nenávist k Židům jako celku postrádá jakoukoli vysvětlitelnou motivaci. Absurdnost antisemitismu by mohla svádět k vnitřnímu přesvědčení o stálé přítomnosti Zla, jež bývá v různých náboženstvích personifikováno ďáblem. Jenže ďábel, jak autor obšírně vyložil ve své předchozí knize, je pouze nástrojem, jímž kněží zbavují své bližní daru svobody...
